We’ve got some exciting news to share—Sammi Sandwiches just snagged a major award, and we’re absolutely thrilled about it!
Last week, we found out that our packaging won the 2024 AmeriStar Packaging Award from the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP). Now, if you’re wondering what that means, let me just say—it’s a big deal in the packaging world! The IoPP is kind of like the Oscars for packaging, recognizing companies that are pushing the boundaries in sustainability and innovation.
So, what did we win for? Our revolutionary fiber-based packaging! Yep, we’ve become the first nationally distributed sandwich brand in the U.S. to ditch single-use plastics in favor of something way more planet-friendly. Imagine a package that not only keeps your sandwich fresh but also doesn’t leave a trail of plastic waste behind. That’s what we’ve been working on, and it’s so awesome to see it being recognized on such a big stage.
I have to give a huge shoutout to our partners at ProAmpac for helping us make this happen. Sammi’s packaging uses a mix of carton board and a transparent film liner. Not only does it keep our sandwiches fresh (with less than 1% oxygen—so geeky but so important!), but it also looks great and feels good knowing it’s sustainable. This packaging is sourced from well-managed forests and reduces the footprint by a whopping 96% compared to those old-school plastic clamshells. Plus, it’s recyclable, fitting right into the whole circular economy vibe.
But it’s not just about the packaging
It’s about the whole experience. I wanted something that would make it easy for you to spot your favorite Sammi Sandwiches and feel good about what you’re buying. The color-coded design and clear sustainability messaging are all part of making that happen. And from what I’ve heard, you guys are loving it! The feedback has been incredible, with so many of you telling us how much you appreciate the quality and freshness, not to mention the eco-friendly factor.
And here’s something you might not know—we’ve also designed our sandwiches to minimize food waste. We’ve carefully selected ingredients that extend shelf life, so you won’t find any wilted lettuce ruining your day. Because let’s be real—no one wants to toss a perfectly good sandwich, especially when you think about all the resources that went into making it. This is what real corporate responsibility looks like, and I’m so proud to be leading the charge.
